"When it comes to horror I want comedy, booze, sex, drugs, kick ass music, blood puddles, a few more naked chicks for absolutely no reason at all, and a whole lot of killing." That's the gospel of the next victim of Uber Rock's 13 Days Of Halloween, Dave Kazukiewicz, drummer with uber-faves Mongrel and Polluted Remains. Go ahead and scream...it can't help you now....

What are your most vivid childhood memories of Halloween?

I've always felt there are 3 big events every year; Your birthday, Christmas & HALLOWEEN!!! When I become Supreme Dictator, I mean President, my first order of business will be to make Halloween twice a year. Why hasn't this been done already?

Anyways...Picking a costume was always a huge deal. You had to really think about it and make the perfect choice. For some reason the darker ones always appealed to me! My favourite was my homemade Freddy Krueger costume. The mask and glove were probably available for purchase then, but way too expensive! But I was gonna be Freddy and scare the shit out of my neighbours! The decision had been made. So, I had to make this costume myself. I found a green shirt and spray painted red stripes across it. Borrowed a Freddy-ish hat from mygrandfather. Got some sort of FX burn victim kit and made my face into a grotesque pile of blood and gore. Now I needed the Freddy claws. I wanted to use steak knives but that idea was shot down. So my mom helped me make a less lethal version. We took some long metal clips and stuck them through the fingers of a glove. It was pretty bad ass for a 10 year old!

Why do you think that the worlds of horror and metal/punk have always been so closely linked?

Both are a release of raw emotion. You can say and do things in songs and movies that would get you a life sentence if acted out! When writing music you're always trying to get something "out". Something you've had floating around inside your head that people need to hear. Feelings too personal to say in any other way. Horror is very similar. It's a release. With horror, as in music,  we explore the dark side of our mind. We're all a little twisted, and horror movies make that ok!

Last year I asked if remakes and rehashes were killing horror, now it seems to be the in-your-face turkey that is 3D - what are your thoughts on this money-grabbing gimmick that is souring cinemas and the state of current horror in general?

3-D is great if used properly. I loved Piranha 3-D! Can't think of anything else that was that good. Friday the 13th part 3 was good back in the day. Eyes squeezed out of a wannabe hero's head in 3-D are always good!

As for the state of horror in general... I like that horror is a big business right now. There's a lot of creative minds thinking up disgusting ways to off people. I really like the Final Destination series for this reason. Every death is fun & disgusting! Did I just say that? I need help. I'm not a big fan of the Saw-style of horror that is everywhere right now. It takes the enjodavemongrelyment out of horror and makes it too real. If I want horror that realistic I'll hang out in the ER. When it comes to horror I want comedy, booze, sex, drugs, kick ass music, blood puddles, a few more naked chicks for absolutely no reason at all, and a whole lot of killing. No torture, just some great death scenes. I don't want an endless series of drawn out torture scenes. I want my horror to make me laugh one second, jump the next, and why not... throw in a few more naked chicks for no reason at all! Now that's a horror movie!

Has there been a horror remake yet that has bettered the original movie?

I felt the new Friday the 13th was better than the original. I know some people just told me to fuck off, but it's true! The new one is better. It explained a lot more about Jason. Who knew he was the biggest pot head on the planet?!! Jason didn't kill anyone till they messed with his weed. Then he went on a rampage! Don't steal the man's crop! And the kills were great.

What's the greatest ever horror movie kill?

Back to Jason. Jason X. Worst movie in the franchise but worth watching for the greatest horror movie kill of all time! Jason is thawed out and pissed off. So he takes the nearest scientist he can find, dips her face in liquid nitrogen - which probably killed her. But Jason isn't done. He smashes her chemically hardened face on the counter and it splatters everywhere!!! Disgustingly good.

Who is the baddest ever horror movie villain...and why?

Freddy Krueger has to be the best/baddest villain. The thought of him and what he is is a nightmare. Not only was he a child killer while alive, once he was murdered he became almost invincible. How do you stop someone who kills you while you sleep? Everyone has to sleep. And he has a great time doing it. He's witty, quick with a joke. Shit. If it wasn't for the claws, the burnt face and the blood lust, he'd probably be a cool guy to hang out with!

Who is the greatest ever Scream Queen?

Greatest scream queen for me is Patricia Arquette. She hasn't been in a lot of horror movies, but the girl can scream! And she looks good doing it. Stigmata was an awesome movie and she was in Nightmare 3 : Dream Warriors.

Name your Top 5 favourite horror movies of all time...and tell us why!!

In no particular order : all these movies changed horror in some way. See them all!

The Omen - The kid that plays Damien is so fucking creepy! If I ever saw that little bastard I would kick him in the face! And when he smiles? Forget it! The little fucker must die!!!

 mongrel

The Exorcist - Still scary. Linda Blair was almost as creepy as Damien, but only when her head was spinning and spitting pee soup. When not possessed she seemed like a normal kid. Damien was always an evil bastard. Both these movies had all star casts as well, which you don't see too often in horror.

Halloween (original) - The original taught us many things. Such as, partying and having sex will get you killed by a serial killer! Don't do it and you have a chance to live. And the boogeyman is real!

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (original) - Based on a true story, which is so messed up. This movie was done so cheap and is still better than all the sequals and remakes that have come out since. A brutal movie.

A Nightmare On Elm Street (original) - Had a great cast. Johnny Depp's death scene was awesome. This was Freddy at his scariest. No jokes. Just nightmares for teenagers.

What underrated horror movie would you recommend to our readers just in case they have never seen it?

I have 3 movies to recommend;

 night_of_the_creeps

The Hitcher - The original and the remake are both great.

Night of the Creeps - When it starts you think it'll be awful. By the end you love it!

Dead Alive - Lawnmowers will never be the same!

What is your guilty pleasure, the trashy horror flick that you hold dear but everyone else runs away from?

Near Dark - I don't know if it's trashy, but the cover looks a bit like a Twilight movie cover. And it's a great vampire movie! Very dark, but almost a love story at the same time. And the feeding scene at the bar is a classic!

What is the greatest ever horror movie poster?

The Evil Dead 2 is my favorite poster. Just a classic image.

What 'star' of the music world would you like to see slaughtered in gory horror movie style? How and why?

This is easy! Nickelback. Hate this band! Hate may not be a strong enough word. So...they would be killed by Victor Crowley of Hatchet. Beaten severely. Then the band would be put in a wood chipper feet first. Except the "singer". He'd be put into a soundproof room (so no-one else has to suffer) and be forced to listen to his own shitty "music" 24/7 until he went crazy and ripped his own ears off! The world would be a better place.

What are your plans for Halloween this year?

This year I have a month of Halloween activities! On Oct 7th I'll be in Chicago to see Danzig Legacy. On the 22nd my band Polluted Remains has a Halloween show in Boston. I'm gonna see Evanescence on the 28th, might have a Mongrel show on the 29th. Then there's still two more days of debauchery to be had!  I'm sure I'll think of something...
