As the Triaxis intro kicks in the drums take over and it's riffs galore as we are treated to 'Gates Of Damnation', 'Autumn Hourglass', 'Sker Point', 'Severed Sanity' and 'Lies' mainly lifted from debut release 'Key To The Kingdom'. But this is no ordinary run of the mill archetypical metal five piece, no siree, because amidst the Priest, Maiden, and Testament influenced guitar driven tunes from the joint Jackson sponsored axe attack of lead Glyn and rhythm guitarist CJ, we find the melodic almost, dare I say, operatic singing of frontwoman Krissie Kirby, ably backed by drummer Giles and Rudy Sarzo inspired bassist Owen. Closing their set with Maiden's 'Wicker Man' the band leave the stage to loud and appreciative applause all round.
Hot on the heels of opening the recent Saxon/Wolfsbane UK tour and now a few dates into their own European headline tour promoting third album 'A Way Of Life', please welcome Fury UK..... Intro tape rolls and it's straight into album opener and the guitar lick supreme 'I See Red', quickly followed by 'Fall From Grace' and 'Alien Skies'.
Then we get the first "Let me hear you scream Ebbw Vale" of the night and "This Is....'Saviour'" leaves me thinking Fury UK are sounding more akin to a four or five piece outfit than your average trio. Their sound perhaps edging into a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal inspired direction thanks to vocalist/guitarist Chris Appleton.
Along with his brother, bassist Luke Appleton and drummer Martin McNee, Chris declares that his band 'Run Away From No One' before unleashing 'Athena', 'Manslaughter', 'Nemesis' and 'Brotherhood' all in quick rapid fire succession. And speaking of that last subject matter it's worth mentioning that whilst Chris is busy singing and playing his heart out Luke meanwhile makes the most of his stage space and sure as hell has his Duracells in tonight. The set comes to a close with two tracks from the 'VR' album 'Call To Arms' and 'Death By Lightning' and with the band's impressive performance the chants from the Steelhousers quickly get the trio back out for a up-tempo and very interesting version of the Dio-era Sabs classic 'Heaven And Hell' and then, with a group bow, that's all folks.
This was yet another top night at The Steelhouse....it's certainly onwards and upwards from here folks for this rapidly growing franchise and with just a small mountain to climb between now and August we wait with baited breath for what comes next.
