Generation_Graveyard_1With over-the-top hell-raising songs, Generation Graveyard has worked their way from all corners of different street sewers and onto London's stages.  Starting off with opening slots less than a year ago, these five rocking lads have grown to levels that have shocked many industry types into agreeing that they have got what we have all been missing for far too long. Namely, proper punk rock inspired by yesteryear, but with a very sharp 2010 edge.

Everything about this band is about causing a reaction, and their custom made rock gear is possibly the first thing anyone notices when they take to The Borderline stage tonight supporting fellow punk rockers, Sorry and the Sinatras. Then next it's probably puzzling most people that Max (vocalist), Spider (guitars) and Pete (guitars) could be triplets in the looks department.  This is offset by bassist, Phil Roadkill and stickman Jonny who is touting a Billy Idol blonde barnet ... this is all about visual provocation of course as aurally everything is pretty much inaudible as the crowd scream at obscene levels for them to get going.

Opening with 'Murder Rock 'n' Roll' it's easy to see why promotors and venues are falling over themselves to get this band onto their bill and stages. This is no frills, punk rock which is for the fans, and by fans. Their musical influences vary wildly from the likes of GG Allin to Warrior Soul, and even HIM get a look in and in no time the energy is off the stage and bouncing its way around the venue.

'All Hail The Plague' follows and Pete has a slight technical fault that is dealt with and they're back on track in no time. I've always been a firm believer that a live show isn't a live show if something doesn't fuck up, break or become irreplaceable at the most crucial moment, but I'm also a firm believer that it shouldn't jangle nerves, which it certainly doesn't do here.

Generation_Graveyard_3aFollowing with 'Destroy Yourself', 'Rest In Piss' and a cover of the Dead Boys 'Sonic Reducer', I'm all fired up when they play one of my favourite tracks 'Poison City'. I think what captivates me with this song is Max's vocals. His usual gravely and powerful notes are replaced in the chorus with a soothing melody that makes me want to break things.......gently.  "This city is poison ... this city will be my grave".

The GG Allin cover 'Bite It You Scum' is always a favourite when seeing these guys live and they literally destroy souls, it's such a belter! Closing their set with 'Bastard Throne' it's not surprising to hear that certain members from the night's headlining act can't say enough praise about their fellow rockers. If you want to check this sensation out for yourselves then Generation Graveyard will also be tearing up the stage again on the 8th May at Dusk til Dawn in Archway for the Start of Scummer Bash along with Junction X111 and The Skin Tight Jaguars.

For those of you that don't get to the smoke very often check out the band's Myspace for details of their upcoming EP and get your punked up paws onto a copy when it comes out. If it doesn't change your life, at least it will give you immense aural pleasure for many years to come.
