There's plenty of great new talent out there that deserves to be heard and have the success, but I've been propping up the bar long enough to know that to really get noticed you've got to have both the looks and the hooks. One band that has got just those exact ingredients to make a thirst quenching cocktail of alternative rock with a cherry on top are the tongue lickingly good Alexa De Strange and the Sisters of Seduction (Try putting that name on a pin-on badge.)
Now you may be thinking who the hell is this Miss Alexa De Strange? Well let me inform you. Alexa De Strange is the name of the band not a person, the brainchild of a duo, fronted in more ways that one by the babedelicious Francesca Santamaria and the feather boa wearing bastard son of Marc Bolan Shannon Lee who have thrown together many ideas to make a conundrum of sounds that will refresh your ears. (In fact they could be the Barbie and Ken of modern day rock 'n' roll.)
The band have already made a highly stylish and ghoulish video for the track 'Babydoll' which has already had a staggering 6,000 hits on YouTube and is not even officially released until October 31st the night of Halloween. Yes sir, this band is already generating a little buzz around themselves and it's time you too came and tasted the honey.
Francesca is led to the stage in a blind-fold and I'm already starting to boil. Blasting into a couple of belters all is looking good. The Sisters of Seduction are bolstered tonight with the rock 'n' roll whore of a drummer that is Robin Guy, quite possibly the best drummer on the UK scene right now he gives the band that extra oomph and solid backbone. On guitar is George St Stergiou who really lets it rip when given the chance. Keys man Alan Nelson knows exactly when to tinkle his ivories and special mention must go to Nataylia Roni who sings backing vocals in unison with Francesca which in turn gives the band an almost Abba-esque vibe. What Abba! I hear you cry. Well yes just a little dash thrown in with the gothic overtones and the glam rock golden years of the seventies. There is no one true category for Alexa De Strange.
'Fame' is a slow sexy seductive little number and as Shannon Lee said himself "it's a good number to strip to" with its cool rhythmic bass line. 'Babydoll' takes a few listens to really embed itself in you when you are watching the video but live the song took on a whole new dimension with Lee and Guy really shining on this future classic epic track. 'Stardust' has got the seventies written all over it right from the Glitter-ish drum intro and 'Luxxxurious!' is about a time when Francesca was just a little ugly duckling at school being bullied and saying ''Look at me now'', I'm right behind you girl. Another great rocker ending the short set, which flew by all too quickly.
There will be strange days ahead, but be ready to be dazzled by the razzle of Alexa De Strange and the Sisters of Seduction.
Set list: Twilight Is Our Playground/ Headspaces/ Fame/ Babydoll/ Stardust/ Luxxxurious!
