spag2Thursday night in the downstairs backroom of a city centre venue gathers no more than a couple dozen clued up dudes and dudettes ready for some cowpunk,  acoustic rock 'n' roll from one  Eddie Spaghetti. Oddly, upstairs is full to bursting with emo and indie Kerrang kids listening to some shit average bands who'd give their collective testicles to have penned just one song as good as Eddie Spaghetti's worst song....and that's a fact, boys and girls. Yet right under their pierced snouts was one quarter of "the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band." Let's not despair or dwell on negatives - at least they were out watching live music I suppose, and they're young. Anyway, I'd rather look to what's good in the world so, without wasting anymore time, Mr Spaghetti straps on his six string, plugs in and gets on with the show.

Tonight there is no set list just a promise from Spaghetti that he will endeavour to play whatever the paying customers shout out. Brave? Maybe; as soon as he gets a request for 'Dead Homies' he chuckles and says anything from his impressive back catalogue besides maybe one or two, of which 'Dead Homies' is one. But without further ado he obliges and bangs out a perfect acoustified version and realises that tonight he might have to break a sweat to earn his mular. With his family in tow he first gets upstaged by his two year old daughter who wanders on stage and wants to sing then, mid-set, gets his son Quattro up to play us his new song 'Lazy Days' whilst dad looks on.

Safe to say there was a fair smattering of Supersuckers' classics stripped down to the bone ('Creepy Jackalope Eye', 'Bubblegum & Beer', 'Goodbye', 'Eastbound & Down' and 'Goin' Back To Tucson') as well as hoedowned Spaghetti solo offerings  like 'Misery & Gin', 'Gotta Get Drunk', 'Jesus Never Lived On Mars' and, of course, there is a Johnny Cash number, but the gem on offer tonight is Dwarves classic 'Everybody's Girl' (also covered on his latest album 'Sundowner' - if you haven't got this full countrified band version then what's wrong with you? Go check it out!) - Blag would approve, no doubt about it.

Before the night is through we are treated to a massive double aural penetration worth the entry fee alone; 'Pretty Fucked Up' and the epic 'Born With A Tail'. There is no fake ending just some genuine heartfelt thanks from the bearded man with the cowboy hat and mirror shades and a promise that he'll be back in the future to play some more, whether that be solo or with the Supersuckers I know not but I do know that I'll be there because whilst the music biz changes and evolves around us all one thing is for sure - Eddie Spaghetti and the Supersuckers will be a constant and will keep on keeping on doing what he/they do best and that's rock our asses off, give VFM and, however it comes out; cowpunk acoustic, electric punk rock or dirty country, it'll be pretty much top notch and for that reason Mr Spaghetti deserves respect and support.

Barely had we put down the middle digit finger and collected autographs and a few words we were back in the mild night air and homeward bound but all the better for our evening's entertainment. Cheers Mr S and family, job done! Cha Cha Cha!!!
