Bermondsey_AlbumAs 2009 draws to a conclusion we can look back at this music year and thank our lucky stars that even though the majority have once again been largely dictated to by manufactured bullshit, the people who love and play our type of Uber Rock do seem to be standing up and saying enough is enough.  A more than welcome sign of this happening right here in the UK has been the increase in bands releasing some pretty cool Rock 'n' Roll music.  From The Dirty Strangers to Jim Jones Revue it's once again OK to play the music you make without having one eye on the fashion police and what they might be thinking is in vogue.

So, you can now add to this list, the name of The Bermondsey Joyriders. Formed out of their mutual love of what we would call 'real' music Guitarist/Vocalist Gary Lammin (ex Cock Sparrer), bassist Martin Stacey (ex Chelsea guitarist) and drummer Steve Godoy (who has since been replaced by Keith Boyce from The Heavy Metal Kids) capture a sound and spirit on this their ten track self titled album, that not only cleanses your soul of all that manufactured shite but gets to the very heart of what is great in music and pounds away at it like a jackhammer.

The full Joyriders musical manifesto is dispatched with ruthless efficiency in a little under thirty minutes.  Played in the true spirit of 76, recorded and mixed live and spontaneously in one twelve hour session it's all wrapped up in the bands imitable mix of glam, rock, blues and punk.

On tracks like 'Again and Again' 'All The Darkness' and 'Genuine' The Bermondsey Joyriders somehow manage to sound like the bastard sons of The Sonic Rendezvous Band with the spirit of Pete Wells from Rose Tattoo on slide guitar, which in itself should make any self respecting rock fan want to hear this band...NOW!!!

Gary's tribute to the London football scene is rather appropriately titled 'Football' and manages to conjure up a certain Ian Dury-ish charm in the process, whilst a reworking of one of his classic Cock Sparrer tracks 'Runnin Riot', sounds twice as raw and fucked off as it ever did.

Throughout the ten tracks contained on The Bermondsey Joyriders there is a Rock 'n' Roll smash and grab raid of your senses going on right under your nose, something that you have to hear to believe it can still happen in this day and age.

If you like your music hallmarked 'authentic' then look no further than 'The Bermondsey Joyriders', you can buy it here and this Uber Rocker most certainly recommends it... It's 'andsome I tell ya.
