Sittingthesummerout artworkItalian quintet Sittingthesummerout are releasing their sophomore EP two years after their first EP – and the five songs contain within are the next logical evolution for the rock sound previously known as emo.

The band take their cue from early emo/post hardcore bands such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Dashboard Confessional, Weezer and Brand New which has my ears ringing in glee.

The band were formed by singer Samir Batista and are completed by Dimitri Sironi and Luca Della Foglia on guitar, Andrea Daniele on drums and Cristina Lietti on bass.

The usual subjects are covered here ranging from deception, rejection, and how to become a better person.

The cut throat guitars cut an impressive noise, especially on 'Permanence', and the soft ditty 'Dry, Dry June' leads brilliantly into the final track, 'To Those Concerned', which brings to mind ‘Hours’-era Funeral For A Friend.

All in all, these five songs are a great introduction to what could turn out to be your new favourite post hardcore band. Sittingthesummerout are truly that good!

‘Brick and Mortar’ is out now. You can get your copy HERE.
