pseudogiantsThere's a rumour going around that The Pseudo Giants may or may not have amongst their ranks the drummer of the infamous (in certain circles) Trigger McPoopshute. One thing's for sure, this Abertillery based three piece have links to certain Uber Rock scribes, but will I let information like that influence my review one way or the other? Of course not, I'm a professional, you know!

Formed by guitarist and singer Lee Nichols, The Pseudo Giants started life as a solo project and, as things progressed, friends Dean and Carl were added to the ranks and Lee's Amigos were born. Following writing and gigging and a recent name change they now return with new EP, 'Choices'.

Opening with the title track, it's an acoustic based track with a little Carl Barat style guitar riff going on. It has an indie feel to it, the recording is basic and demo-like which sits quite well anyway with the jangly, acoustic based style they play. 'Come To Me' has a good indie beat and also a bit of a jangly feel to it, the vocals go for epic in a James Dean Bradfield style and, even though Lee's voice is not as strong, it certainly captures some raw passion - it's a decent job. The melody and arrangement are good making for an all-round quality tune.

'Heal' is my favourite track here, reminding me of a certain INXS track I can't quite put my finger on and it's bugging me, its in the melody. It's a good slice of indie pop rock. The drum pattern and the choppy guitars are nice and compliment the infectious melody.

My only concern is the drums here; credited to being played by 'Will' they sound remarkably like a drum machine, and if Will is a real person I apologise, but the drum sound is processed to these ears and some better drums would do the songs justice.

All in all The Pseudo Giants show potential; the songwriting is good, the musicianship is good, next step is to up the production...that is once they get rid of Will and get a real drummer with a drum kit.
