A typical American Orientatated introduction heralds 'Wings Of Freedom', some fine harmonic lead and backing vocals deserve merit that also interweaves some fine musicianship and a decent production courtesy of Alessandro Del Vecchio. 'Change Your Heart Tonight' has just about enough commercial passage to get this particular track past the minute mark of listening to keep me enthralled, not a good thing whilst only on track two, and this process continues throughout 'All I Can Promise' and 'Keep On Moving'. A neat piano intro brings in 'Hope On The Horizon' but only sitting in at a disappointing 38 seconds in length....
Elements of Bon Jovi rip-off...oops I meant influenced by, once more dreary dated listening crops up on 'Old Hero's Prayer' while title track 'Back To Life' ups the tempo but that '80s inspiration has again taken control with absolutely no originality in sight. 'Hell Of Tears'; of course, every album of this ilk must contain the obligatory ballad, nicely arranged and passable of sorts but will disappear into the depths of the balladry archives, nuff said.
'A Message From Planet Venus' has me on reviewing auto-pilot, I now have the instincts of a Uber zombie that just briefly gets me through 'New Power Day', 'Rock Still Stands' and thankfully the final tune 'Beautiful Heretic's Dream'.
My Soul has certainly been stretched here today, but I'm sure the blinkered AOR aficionados will adhere to this release no doubt.....back to life indeed.
