outcry-collective-articles"Thud!" - that's the sound of my chin hitting the ground midway through 'Out Of My System' the lead track off Outcry Collective's debut album 'Articles'. We may have been slow on the uptake with these guys (the album's been out since the Summer), but when we were tipped off to give this album a spin, as "we might just like it" we never guessed it would be quite this fucking good.

Describing themselves simply as a rock 'n' roll band from Surrey, England, a bit like say The Bronx or the MC5 used to call themselves rock 'n' roll, will give you an idea of what we are talking about here. Within the ten tracks that make up 'Articles' you have hints of funk, metal, blues and hardcore, coming together as a cacophony of energy propelled by the engine roar vocals of Steve Sitkowski to make the foundations of the Outcry Collective sound.

'Articles' is pretty much fist in face abrasive stuff with 'Homecounty Killer' and 'Straight From The Throat' testing Steve's lung capacity to maximum growl factor ten. But let's not trivialise this, Outcry Collective are smoking fucking hot on these tracks and hats off to Robert Pryor on bass, Christopher Phelps on guitar and Sam Burden on drums for creating such a ferocious set of tunes.

What is unique about this band's sound is when they truly go out on a limb and create something no one else is doing in the UK right now, as they do with 'A Great Day For The Crows' and  'Crystal Clear', the resulting tunes are a real musical goosebumps moment and I get strong visions of this band crossing over to a much wider audience.

As Outcry Collective are currently out and about the UK touring trail on a three band bill with Gay For Johnny Depp and Blakfish, I would strongly recommend those of you who enjoy your music...shall we say.... a little more energetic and... well...fun check out 'Articles', and I'll seeapproved_image_lrg you down the front for a little 'Saviour Stranger' the best song The Bronx never wrote in 2009.
