With 'Dragonwizardsleeve', Blackwolfgoat comes riding in on a slow moving train of moody Kyuss-style guitar hooks which somehow morph into Fleetwood Mac circa 'Black Magic Woman'. This sounds good, but in truth this is near 7 minutes of under development bleeding agonisingly in to 'Death Of A Lifer' which sounds like the train is slowing down to a Black Sabbath stop between stations.
And that is really the case for the whole EP. Every song sounds like the introduction to something you've heard before until you realise it's an extensive introduction to nothing at all. Moving between blues, metal and electronic processes, some of this may make great soundtrack music to a 1970s Italian horror movie, or the slow bits in a Silent Hill sequel. It certainly would create a great sense of place if accompanying one through an exhibition on the 9 circles of hell - it really does have that atmospheric feel. However, as a standalone release there is little more to say.
I'm sure there's support for this kind of thing, but I have to admit it has largely passed me by. It might appeal to those who like atmospheric sounds in the purest sense, as it is really the Pure Moods tape for the amphetamine come-down, but don't show it off to your friends and expect them to get it.
