Following on from 2009's fantastically named 'A Plush Horse.....With A Monkey On A String', Mr Blast lets rip with a four track EP featuring some top names like Rick Richards, Sami Yaffa, Dan Curry, Geno Martino, Pablo Castro and Chips Z'Nuff.
'Up On The Silver Screen' has that Rick Richards guitar lick all over it whilst the song flows by, it has style and substance and has that traditional rock 'n' roll feel with its duelling guitars, barroom piano and smouldering rhythms. 'The Last Puff' has a very nice riff and tends to motor along with a great tempo and plenty of attitude. 'In The Morning Sun' drifts in on a magic carpet with some very Stonesy 'Sympathy For The Devil' like bongo playing and "whoo-hoos" but holding the track together is some decent guitar work. Finishing off we have 'Ride' with a very Californian sun feel to proceedings, and as it drifts to its conclusion I can't help but feel this is unfinished business....
Whilst it's always nice to have a new release from Peter Blast I'd love to have had a new long player rather than four tracks. Hopefully this impressive collection of musicians will be put through their paces on that long player and I can get to enjoy the fruits of their labour. 'Straight Up No Ice' is good but it should be great so I'll wait for the next instalment from Mr Blast, until then these four will just have to do.
