A trio of noisy herberts from our capital city, whose members include Uber Rock's very own Craggy on guitar and singing duties, Steve on bass and Will on the drums, got together in the spring of 2011. They mashed their influences together into a melting pot of rock and came up with the Station Agents. Here I have been given the opportunity to slate..er sorry I mean, give my unbiased opinion on their recorded output so far.
'Hallowed Be Thy Middle Name' is not a take on an Iron Maiden song but a ragged and dishevelled 3 minutes of what I would call 'pub rock 'n' roll', and that's not a put down at all. I would lump 'em in the same category as The Yo-Yo's and The Loyalties. Craggy's voice is rough around the edges, the guitars are low slung with plenty of raw attitude going on. The melodies are good, it's got an upbeat vibe.
'Falling Off The Radar' starts with a riff that brings to mind very, very early Wildhearts and the song does the same, with some nice vocal harmonies in the chorus it sounds like Rancid covering the Georgia Satellites, which can't be bad, eh? It's a song that shows promise, and I'm sure could become a live favourite.
Their sound is punky influenced rock 'n' roll coming on like many a small British band did in the late '80s rock scene; it's a rough and ready recording, but the songs are there and I hope they have more of the same up their collective sleeve.
Two tracks ain't much to go on but I could quite happily listen to an album full of this material, so come on Craggy and the boys, let's be having some more of ya!
