pretty_recklessOk, first things first - yes, Taylor Momsen is the girl from Gossip Girl and Cindy Lou Who - How the Grinch Stole Christmas. She formed The pretty Reckless in 2009 with John Secolo, Matt Chiarell and Nick Carbone. They recorded some demos in early 2009 and they opened for The Veronicas on their North American tour. On June 4 2009, Taylor fired her band members because they didn't fit with her music style and formed a new band.

In an interview with MTV, Momsen revealed the influences for the band include The Beatles and Oasis, along with grunge band Nirvana. To these ears Momsen is possessed by the spirit of Hole leader Courtney Love. She also stated that her personal influences include Kurt Cobain and Joan Jett.

The first single to be released was 'Make Me Wanna Die', which launched the soundtrack to the 2010 film 'Kick-Ass'. There was a digital only EP made up of four songs from this, their debut album namely 'Make Me Wanna Die', 'Zombie', 'My Medicine' and 'Goin' Down'.

Given the publicity the band has received, they have delivered an album which is a belter - although only containing ten tracks of which four have been previously released it does seem like a rush job. Taylor has co-written all the tracks here, which is very impressive as she is only 17!

The stand out tracks are the ones mentioned above - and the sound is great. Whilst I can see why people baulk at the thought of this very band and the doors that seem to open readily for them (having opened this year's V Festival, etc) the band do actually deliver the goods! I cannot wait for a tour or some proper UK shows along with the next album!
