MADE_OF_HATE_-_PathogenOn the 14th March during Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson's radio show he played 'On The Edge', a song by a new Polish band that had been brought to his attention.  After that initial first play the show was inundated with requests to hear more from the band, and this resulted in Bruce playing the title track of their debut album 'Bullet In Your Head'. Not only did Bruce Dickinson champion the band via his show, he was so impressed with the band's debut album that they were also cordially invited to open for Iron Maiden in front of 30,000 rabid Maiden fans at Gwerdia Stadium Warsaw.

The name of that band is Made Of Hate, and as they are about to unleash their second album 'Pathogen' onto the metal fraternity, the big question is, "are they really worthy of such praise?"

The simple answer being "yes".

Made Of Hate belong to a new breed of death metal bands, such as French metallers Gojira, who display an incredible wealth of musicianship within their ranks. From opening track 'Friend', the album kicks off with some contagious guitar displaying the incredible talents of Mike Kostrzyński that continues throughout the album. To my knowledge there have been two albums in the last 12 months featuring tracks named 'Russian Roulette', whereas I have to confess to liking both numbers if I had to choose which song was worthy of such a title then I'm afraid it wouldn't be sung by an overweight Israeli in greasepaint, Made Of Hate's number gives you the feeling of a gun held to your head in its brutal delivery.

Throughout the eight tracks on 'Pathogen' the deathly vocals of new vocalist Radek Półrolniczak, along with the musicianship of his band members, replicates the great old school metal style that would appeal to heavy metal fans old and new. On first listen to 'I Can't Believe' invokes comparisons of Swedish death metal band In Flames, as like the aforementioned band they stride to take their style of death metal to a new level. 'Lock 'n' Load' meanwhile does as it says on the box, literally blowing me away on first listen with a frantic drumming style care of drummer Tomek Grochowski, promptly leading into the incredible guitar playing of Mike Kostrzyński once again. The album's title track 'Pathogen' proves death metal can be just as infectious as other genres of heavy metal without losing any of its ferocity. Then when you thought you had heard the best of the band they finish up with the awesome 'Questions', beginning with an almost Judas Priest like guitar opening shifting into a vicious deadly onslaught.

Forget questioning the praise lauded on Made Of Hate, the only question that needs to really be asked is "why aren't these guys massive?"
