Starting off with a press release that states that "Shellcase can be described as a modern-hi-energy-radio-ready-post-grunge-rock band" will scare most people but underneath that opening scrawl lays a band that aren't afraid to wear their influences on their well worn sleeves.
Apparently the road to the release of this album has been far from easy after contending with losing their record deal and having to re-record the whole album. Yet the band have still come out on the other side and proved their naysayers wrong.
'Dead Memories' is an album to be proud of, although it's far from 'radio-ready' - the swearing does seem to be slotted in to cause a response as it rarely feels natural... that niggle aside the power trio rock their collective socks off here.
'Faith' is their chosen opening rage of fury. With lyrics such as "Where is god, when you have cancer, where is God, when a child must die", you can sense a little hostility towards the crucified one. Next up 'Fucked Up' is another 'radio ready' slice of pop. NOT! It struts with a low bass riff and then builds into a diatribe of disinterest of the world and how 'it doesn't matter if you've Fucked Up'. 'Lobotomy' reminds me of local heroes Circle of One and their brand of heavy groove laden rock.
Given the general theme of hatred and disenchantment with the world we live in Shellcase are most probably the band to right our wrongs and rock at the same time. Shellcase are a band I would love the chance to interview and see live as I feel that they are one of the more honest bands rocking the stage as of this time.
