Not a chance was this album not going to sound rough arsed, ragged and rockin'. I mean, c'mon, Izzy was always the cool one in you-know-what band and had all the decent choons. On this set he's not so much reinventing the wheel but rolling with it just like he does in some beat up soft top.
A sprightly start with 'Beat Up' and I get the feeling this is closer to what we had from The Ju Ju Hounds and that amazing debut outing. There is plenty of fire in them fingers it would seem with some sumptuous riffs and licks and that instantly recognisable vocal. Not an instrumental in sight either (which is nice), just ten tracks of Izzy Stradlin prime cuts to get the blood pumping and the toes tapping. 'Gone' has all the gusto and swagger you'd want from Izzy. If you like rock 'n' roll music then this is your download. Perhaps sensing a more upbeat Mr Stradlin than on some of his more mellow offerings recently it's well worth a few coins of anyone's money and, whilst the rest of his former bandmates release rather patchy offerings, it's down to Stradlin to deliver the good, and on this form he's still the coolest ex Guns by a long chalk! Just put 'Raven' on to prove the point with a beefed up guitar sound. Izzy Stradlin: reliable, dependable, class.
