blackrootsThis is my third review now for the Bristol Archive Records label and can I just say, thanks for taking the time to set this series of releases in motion, they are getting stronger each time and this one from Bristol's leading exponents of reggae in the '80s tops the lot.

Any reggae fan who hasn't heard of Black Roots (should be few and far between) should stop reading now and either order online or better still, go to wherever your nearest local independent record shop is and order or purchase, give them some support!!!

But I have a complaint, where is my copy of the DVD from 1986 recorded at the then Bristol Studio (now the O2 Academy)? With a horn section this band must have been incredible, but I guess you can't have everything.

I'm not going to go into track titles, the groove sits nicely in every track, there is genuinely no weakness here, but again it bodes the question as with the band Talisman, why no major label pick up? Am I missing something or was reggae considered at the time to be a little subversive, maybe too politically knowing, maybe too insightful at times? Answers on a post card please but listen to 'Frontline' first.

One of my albums of the year so far, fully recommended.
