thrillkillWhen this album came through from ÜRHQ I don't know what got me most excited, the album itself or the record label, took me back to a time running a record shop and introducing the label to a whole new innocent West Wales contingent!!!

The label began initially as a record store in Denver, Colorado, which was sold in 1978 and another opened in Chicago the same year. This became the epicenter of the punk, new wave and industrial music scenes in Chicago. The label released amongst others Front 242, KMFDM, Young Gods, Laibach, alongside numerous side projects from Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker of Ministry. Remember Acid Horse (with Cabaret Voltaire) or Pailhead (with Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat)?

So what is the album like? For fans of the scene exactly what you'd expect from the time (1987-1991): hard edged industrial, not particularly an easy listen but well worth persevering and, as you move forward, the sound takes on a more techno edge as that particular form of music began to take hold and inform/influence the scene. This album is a great representation of the time. Stand out tracks such as 'Ride The Mindway', 'Leather Sex' and 'Kooler Than Jesus' all still stand strong and are well worth buying this alone, put in 'A Daisy Chain For Satan' and 'Days Of Swine And Roses' and you've got one happy bunny.

For all you industrial fans out there don't hesitate, and once you've been hooked in check out some of the other stuff on Wax Trax. Blow your mind as KMFDM would say.
