'Rockers United FC' kicks off proceedings for The Slagsterz with a welcome burst of saxophone, a catchy chorus and a mighty fine first 45 for the glamorous punk rock 'n' rollers it is too. Will they be able to keep up the pace and quality for the second half is the question every pundit is asking themselves. In fairness 'Jukebox Julie & Straycat Jack' follows on where 'Rockers United FC' left off with more honkin' horns courtesy of Volvex and as the track motors on towards half time the dirty sax is killer. After some half time oranges and the Slagsterz being well in front 'Coma D'Amour' has some frantic axework and most enjoyable it is too - these boys might be onto something. Maybe not as catchy or good as the opening two tracks, it's a decent listen, but I'm afraid to report that the fourth and final track, a cover of the Pistols' 'Silly Thing' isn't what's called for here; maybe the boys are getting tired in the final quarter of this EP with this being something of an own goal but hey, a 3-1 win ain't bad at all for these sleazy glam punks and well worth checking out. I'd prefer to have heard them mix it up with another original track rather than a Tenpole Tudor-esque version of a great Cook & Jones number - maybe it's played too fast and the chug of the guitar isn't quite there but overall I'm happy to have put this EP in the player. I was once again impressed with the Slagsterz and what they have to offer and I'll look forward to the next time. I'm glad to report that they won't be put on the transfer list nor will they get subbed at half time, however a little fitter next time for the duration and they'll be much better for it. I like the Slagsterz.
