gentleman-coverGentlemen Of Distorted Sound, or GODS for short I suppose, are soon gonna be breaking a few dropped jaws with the Bare Knuckle release of their smoking 'Bone Idol EP', an in your face introduction to the British four piece that showcases their accomplishments with five shining examples of hard driving rock with foundations set firmly within traditional British rock (baring one little dalliance in a certain Southern State a little later on that is).

Starting off with a dose of 'Electric' we get an intriguing three minute burst of rock melting together a forceful mix of The Cult and The Almighty. It works like a treat with a bone shaking rhythm section and crunching guitars providing a perfect canvas for vocals that roll and rock their way straight into the equally Almighty-like follow on track 'Beautiful Face For Evil'. Two hard edged drivers with more clout than Tiger Woods' wife give a perfect view as to what Gentlemen Of Distorted Sound are all about. GODS? GODS of Thunder then I guess.

Third track is the mid way pinnacle of the soaring 'My Gods', vocalist Gareth Nugent (third cousin of the infamous Damn Yankee Ted if you were wondering) carries a smooth but powerful tone over the sea of riffage pouring out from Mako's six string groove machine. A chugging broody "Where are they now?" epic that sets a pace and style akin to something from Europe's 'Last Look At Eden'. Nugent's hard yet soulful style of delivery coming, on this track at least, from the same school of frontmanship as Mr Joey Tempest himself. Certainly the top track in the GODS arsenal.

Recorded in London before getting a mix at the hands of Mark Williams (Biffy Clyro, Enter Shikari) in exotic Watford, 'Bone Idol' has a fresh sounding, lively groove that pulses through the five offered tracks with urgency and passion.  And lively and fresh is exactly what the GODS dish up next with 'La Grange (Shinin' On)' throwing a little Texan groove into the mix. Spinnin' like a ZZ shaped Top, it's cover song mash up time with the GODS paying a little tribute to the bearded trio and Grand Funk Railroad in equal measure. Final track 'Breathe' is probably the weakest of the bunch but that in no way means it's a bad song. It does however give a little different insight into Nugent Junior's voice with a little more "gravel" showing in this one as opposed to the previous four. Ending a little abruptly it does leave you wanting more so I guess it does it's job well enough.

Kicking off the release of the 'Bone Idol EP' with a major appearance on the main stage at this year's Bulldog Bash on August 13th is sure to bring a few more fans to the fold of a group fast picking up new followers with their instantly accessible, tried and tested brand of quality trad rock. Don't end up hanging off the side of their bandwagon later on, jump aboard now while there's room and go check out their myspace for a quick 'Electric' fix.
