Bit of an odd one this. The Empire Shall Fall feature one Jessie Leach (original Killswitch Engage vocalist) in their ranks and it would appear this album first surfaced at the end of last year. Only now, it would appear, is this album getting released over here and, as I said, it's a bit of an odd one.
Opener 'Awaken' has a nu-metal feel to it while 'Voices Form Weapons' and 'Choir Of Angels' mix chunky riffing with some fairly widdly guitar parts. In fact there seems to be a whole mish-mash of styles and influences going on. Whilst it provides plenty of variety, it ultimately leads to the album never really getting any groove or continuity going, and leaving the listener wanting much more.
Not a bad album per se, and fair play the band as individuals put in some spot-on performances, but that doesn't necessarily mean much if you haven't got good songs. All too often the songs on offer here rarely break through the OK barrier.
