the_loudYou've probably never heard of The Loud, I hadn't, but that could maybe change in the coming months based on the strengths of 'Harris Shutter', their debut mini album. With a mutual love of garage rock and 60s psychedelia Liverpudlian three piece The Loud mix together the sounds of The Stooges and T. Rex with the more modern feel of The Jesus & Mary Chain and BRMC, and to great effect it has to be said.

Housed in a smart digipack with the album's lyrics printed on a small sheet of tracing paper, the package leaves a lasting impression, as does the music within. Lead track and current single 'Amy's Gonna Get You' is an infectious scuzzed up slice of 70s glam, a garage rock 'n' roll 'Get It On' for the new millennium. The laid back drawl of vocalist/guitarist Pennington Lee and the fuzzed up sounds created with the help of bassist Matthew Freeman and drummer Leroy Oxten are a contemporary take on classic garage rock.

'Horror Scope', with its fine indie drum beat, is upbeat and catchy like BRMC on speed, great backing "la-la"s add to the infection. I also hear hints of fellow indie scousers The Coral and The Zutons in their sound, and these little hints may be the key to a bit of commercial success, it must be something in the water!

'Avida Dollars' is classy garage rock to the max, riding in on the coolest of riffs, the stand out track for me; a very live feel to it, it's a groove thing for sure.

With a crystal clear production courtesy of Ross Halden, the drums and bass are punchy and the guitars nice and fuzzy, but nothing gets lost in the mix. The Loud are not afraid to wear their influences on their collective sleeve, and they do it with passion and conviction. The songs are anthemic, street friendly bursts of energy that are fitting for the times we live in.

With songs as catchy as 'Amy's Gonna Get You' and 'There's A Bomb In The House' radio airplay surely beckons. If there's any justice in this world (which there usually isn't!) then expect to hear The Loud blasting their way into your ear drums soon.
