AriseWhen you come from Gothenburg and your chosen genre is thrash/death there's a fair chance your sound is going to be pretty familiar. In that respect Arise don't really pull any surprises. What they do though is ensure the quality of their music is sufficiently high that stylistic comparisons, whilst being fairly obvious, are not going to detract from the listener's enjoyment of this album.

Top drawer melodic death/thrash is the order of the day then on this their fourth album, with nods toward Colony-era In Flames on opener 'Adrenaline Rush' and 'Blindead'. There are also elements of all manner of bands here, particularly Carnal Forge, The Crown and Hypocrisy.  They mix the pace up a fair bit as well, 'Pitch Black' taking the pace down a couple of notches, and the title track is also a great mid-paced chugger. The real differentiator for this bunch though is the energy and drive evident in their faster stuff. There's also some great guitar work in here as well, though in fairness that's almost to be taken for granted.

So whilst not breaking any real boundaries stylistically, Arise are well worth half an hour of your time, assuming you like a nice bit of what Sweden does best.
