BSCmagicmountain'Magic Mountain' is the fourth studio offering from Kentucky boys Black Stone Cherry, a band now firmly established among the higher echelon of hard rock bands we have today.

'Holding On...To Letting Go' instantly takes me back to the first Black Stone Cherry self titled release with its intensive riffage and blistering vocal approach. This group have always embraced their original musical American roots once you delve beneath the overall heaviness and that for me is something that endears the listener to this band in particular: just listen to tracks like 'Bad Love & Hard Luck' or 'Runaway' for further evidence of this.

Lead single off the release, 'Me And Mary Jane, is another heavier veined but totally groove laden tune but for me the diamond herein is that added knock out punch of the Chris Robertson lead vocal.

The bluesy element of the songs have always and I'm sure always will remain the solid basis of Black Stone Cherry's tunesmithery - check out title track 'Magic Mountain' or 'Never Surrender' and upon listening to these tunes there's no doubt in questioning this band's ability to fill arenas all over the world.

The compositions have such intense power throughout but it's not all huge riffage and screamadelic vocals, the band also delivers a great country-tinged ballad in the shape of 'Sometimes' to bring a slight musical beautiful respite.

'Holiday In Kentucky', a bluesy moment of beauty, also shows the band's commercial side but still holds the Black Stone Cherry essence without selling out so to speak, something this collective have perfected over the years.

'Remember Me' closes the album on another high for Cherry, although for me personally speaking this album lacks that one killer tune that the band's previous albums have had. That said, this album still hits the heights.

Return to Magic Mountain....Indeed.
