Supernal20Endgame_cover_largeWhere do I start? With trembling hands I opened the latest package from Über Röck and what do I find? The latest (and only release as far as I can tell) from Supernal Endgame, a progressive rock band - I'm sure people have worked out how much I love that particular genre of music - who have released a whole album, the first of two made in worship of the divine God.

Being prog in my book is bad enough but being Christian prog as well, for someone who read LaVey's Satanic Bible and thought it made some valued points, it don't get much worse!!!!! As an Atheist I struggle to believe in the sentiment throughout the album, it allows you to get away without making choices and accepting responsibilities (read The God Delusion from Richard Dawkins). The last track I listened to with a Godly sentiment was Ministry's 'Psalm 69', full of power, aggression and focus....but enough of my ranting, to the music!!!!

What we have is a group based around Rob Price, Dan Pomeroy and John Eargle; musicianship wise it's as it says on any Christian packaging, "uplifting" - all parties know how to play. I wouldn't really call it progressive rock, there's a bit of a Genesis (Gabriel era) feel at times but that's about it prog wise. As a concept - not really, apart from all the songs being about God there isn't a story or flow. There are various guests who add a hint of folk and 'Gossamer Strings' (instrumental) is a nice mellow interlude with some nice picking.

In the main this album focuses too heavily on the God angle lyrics wise, the music with decent lyrics could shine (I'll probably get struck down  for this) but to me music is all about leading, setting new boundaries, experimenting and pushing onwards, not following!!!! Christians out there this one's for you, but sadly not for me.
