breathingprocessModern day black metal really does little for me and the press blurb accompanying this disc hardly had me salivating at the prospect of reviewing the second album by The Breathing Process.

Opener proper 'Grimoire' certainly didn't improve things any either, coming across as fairly generic black metal, then....actually things got steadily better.

'Leveller' had some great riffing mid-song, 'Vulture(s)' was atmospheric and powerful without being naff and the remainder of the album proved to be a quite enjoyable listening. Tracks like 'Starless:Eternal' and 'Metamorphosis' with their In Flames-esque structures mixed with the rest of the album's heady mix of black, death and thrash metal make for an interesting and varied listen which made with me glad I stuck with the album a little longer than first impressions indicated I should. Worth a listen.
