180 Proof are a three-piece rock 'n' roll band hailing from Melbourne, Australia. Everything about this band makes me grin from ear to ear, whether it be the artwork or the band members' ridiculous names; JJ Motherfucker - guitars/vocals, Professor Serious - bass/vocals and Andrew "Andy" Andrews on drums. Hell, they even recorded this EP in their own studio situated in the back of a motorbike workshop in Melbourne! God-damn I'm liking these guys. They promise lean, mean, sleazy, nasty rock 'n' roll....interested? You bloody should be!
The first 20 seconds of opener 'Stick It To The Man' contains verbal abuse, crowd noise and a riff pinched from Kiss. If that wasn't enough to whet the appetite, by the end of the chorus I am convinced that these guys could potentially fill the gaping hole left by the sad demise of Turbonegro and Backyard Babies all in one go. 'It Sucks To Be You' comes on like 'Total 13' era you-know-who, 2 mins of furious, catchy, snotty punk rock. Fantastic..enough said.
'Intoxication' is more groove-based, bluesy rock 'n' roll, not bad at all. 'Live Too Dirty' again rides in on a stolen Kiss riff, never a bad thing. The chorus is pure dumb-ass 80's rock, it's so so.
