americanspeedway176Philly fearsome foursome American Speedway almost caused me to follow through, such was the ferocity of the music I simply wasn't expecting when it ripped out of the speakers, grabbed me by the hair and started throwing me 'round the room like something out of The Exorcist (metaphorically speaking of course). Full-on, in your face, hard rockin' punkified noise! Like a really pissed off Zeke, American Speedway don't just simply go for noise and more noise they peddle a harnessed Exocet noise that sounds focused and ready to attack.

Michael Thursby, Chris Callahan and Billy Angry have had their ranks bolstered with the fantastically named Lorraine "Dirty" McGurty on guitar. One thing for sure is these guys (and gal) do not under any circumstance fuck about. It's heads down and on with the show with songs about boats, sharks, killdozers and werewolves! Not a combination you get to type every day that's for sure.

'I Killed Laura Palmer' is as brutal as it sounds and possesses a killer chorus to boot. 'Lonely River' is turbo-charged punk rock that hurtles along with killer riffing and a glass and gravel gargling chorus. 'I Am The Hunter' is rifftastic, high energy, punked up rock 'n' roll with a blistering solo and axework. The only down side is it's pretty short, but you can tell it's a lot of fun and the lethal combination of good songs, fun and plenty of energy makes for some pretty damn good rock 'n' roll.

It'll pound you into submission and one play isn't enough; it'll piss off the missus and the neighbours if you play it loud enough and petrify all the animals within a ten mile radius. Chuggin' beer and listening to punk rock is where it's at when American Speedway are on the stereo. For fans of Peter Pan Speedrock, Adam West and Zeke, you know what you're getting with American Speedway. It might not be original but damn this shit is fuckin' good.
