alunahNow where does that title come from? Avernus is a crater in Italy within which sits Lake Avernus, said to be so toxic in past times there were no birds present living within the crater, in fact Roman mythology logs it as the entrance to the underworld (Hades). You learn something new every day!!!! So what we have got in layman's terms, the call of Hell - must be where the Pagan and occult lyrics are inspired from. Only one type of music here then. And when you call the last track 'The Hermetic Order Of The Golden Dawn' there's only one path you're heading down and it's not to the right!!!!

Downtune the guitar (yep), rape the Black Sabbath back catalogue (check), we must be on a stoner vibe, best I check my press release (Yep, got that one right). In fact I am reliably informed it has elements of stoner, doom and psychedelic and, in fairness, it has!!! Musically I think it sits closest to early doors Sabbath with some serious nods towards both Trouble and Paradise Lost; they've pulled together a record with some serious pretensions.

I have to say though that even after the first couple of listens it still holds my interest, credit where credit is due. I would even go so far as to recommend it...with a couple of slight reservations. I don't think the production is that great, I think the potential for some seriously heavy, powerful work is there but held back, live you could guess at the intensity which is where I think this band will gain a large following. My other slight niggle, which again could be down to the production, is the vocals supplied by Soph Willett which are buried in the mix, she has a great voice, bags of attitude,  bring it to the fore!!!
