Just think Thin Lizzy with the twin lead approach married with some 'Metal Guru' and a hefty splash of 70s real glam like Sweet or even the pop of the Bay City Rollers. It's all about the music and this seven track EP (or short album if you prefer), however you look at it, is absolutely dripping with snappy, catchy songs. Wearing their influences on their sleeves the Biters understand what this genre is all about and are right up there leading a charge to bring rock 'n' roll back to the people. From the opening drum roll of 'Born To Cry' this is champion power pop with its clanging guitar work and pop sensible melody. Whilst it's homed in the US of A there is something of a British feel around the mid 70s here, obviously growing up listening to T. Rex, Sweet, Slade has done the Biters the world of good and everything you ever wanted out of rock 'n' roll is here in a clutch of three minute chart bothering classics along with some Cheap Trick and some DC riffin'. The subject matter is girls, rock 'n' roll and stories about girls and rock 'n' roll. Having a good time is paramount and by the sounds of it you can't fail to have a good time when the Biters are on the record player.
There is a familiarity in 'Breaking Your Heart Again' - it's a bit like Thin Lizzy playing a long lost gem from Cheap Trick using AC/DC's guitars. The dual guitar break hits the spot whilst the chorus will have you nodding in agreement that these boys have the chops. 'Hold On' should bother the summer Top 10s around the globe whilst we all bask in record breaking heatwaves. It's fresh and current whilst the roots of the music come from a bygone era, but it's what 2011 needs - no shoe gazing here my friends.
I can't get enough of this and love the idea of an EP every few months. Tuk understands what it takes to write a great song and Biters know how to knock one out (oo-er Mrs!). Take the blood and thunder of 'Oh Yeah (The Bitch Wants More)' or the Bolan drift of 'Rock 'n' Roll Loser' and you'll understand exactly what I'm harping on about.
'All Chewed Up' is out now and I'm here to tell you to buy it, your collection will be a lot cooler
