Italian rock band that don't want to be Guns N' Roses!!!!!!
After reviewing what seems like 37 Italian bands of a similar ilk, along comes a young band that poke me right in the eye to say "ascoltarci lei l'idiota!"
Forget all you know, or all I've previously told you about the Italian scene because this lot are totally different to the stuff I usually get to review for the Uber Massive. More melodic and more grounded in all departments, WAKEUPCALL hit us with five tracks of well written, well presented rock. Think rock that Radio 2 would play and you'd be close. After reviewing loads of GnR clones, it's refreshing to see that there is more to the Italian rock scene. I'm sat here listening to this thinking it's not exactly sleazy and heavy enough for me but it's well crafted and enjoyable and I'd be happier listening to this than most of what passes for mainstream rock these days. A touch of Nelson (we'd never have said that a year ago), a dash of Maroon5 and a slither of Foo Fighters-style song writing and you get that this lot don't give a fuck about fashion, drugs, hookers and the Sunset Strip of old BUT what they do care about is five songs that can make them live their dream.
As a young four piece, WAKEUPCALL have already supported Winger and Heaven's Basement in Italy and are gearing up for a European tour on the back of this EP and I'd happily encourage you to go and see them.
