Hailing from Hull, this 5 piece like nothing more than to shake their shit with plenty of melody and a snappy crackling sound that's full of bad attitude. These boys are all about the music.
I remember buying their debut album and being very pleasantly surprised with the quality of songs on offer. So, when I was given the chance to review their new EP I jumped at it. Just coming off the back of their 2009 'No Mundane Option' album, it was a surprise that they would have any release out so soon. I knew it was going to sound good and from the opening bar of 'Consequence' I breathed a sigh of relief - the edge is still there and it just sounds like more great songs played with grit, heart and soul and an seemingly effortless ability to churn out songs of a high quality.
Out of the five songs on this EP, 'Lady Boy' the song had me laughing out loud at the frankly bizarre story being told in these lyrics. Brilliant and dumb, not every day do you hear the word "penis" in a song, let alone someone telling you about dalliances with lady boys! It's out there now and horns up and respect for those lyrics.
There is more to The Paddingtons than being indie darlings, mind. 'Wrong Un' sounds like something Rivers Cuomo could have put on any Weezer records from the past five years. The only shame is we have to wait for the next full length (oh er mrs). I'll Deffo be buying their next album unless they go techno! Now pop out and pick up a lady boy for yourself - you know you want to.
