To say I was pleasantly surprised with this is an understatement. I love the songs on offer here, and cannot wait to hear an album and to see the band live. Saying that and considering there are only two people in the band, namely Joe Oliger on vocals/guitars (from Bedlight For Blue Eyes) and Jon Longley on the drums (MC Lars), they really need to capitalise on these outstanding tracks and get a band together as these will go down a storm if their other songs are of this high standard.
This two track demo/sampler was recorded at The Machine Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey, with producer Jeremy Comitas and contains the tracks 'Coming Home' and 'Someday Maybe' which are both loaded with stuck in your head melodies, pounding drums, and arena rock guitars. What I find great is that this does very much sound like a band, not simply a duo, which is a testament to the talent on offer here.
I'm looking forward to catching MC Lars on tour with Zebrahead in March (they're even playing my home town of Pontypridd) and cannot help thinking that Flash Fire are missing out on a perfect tour for them to get their faces out there in the UK, well if they had a touring line up that is.
Flash Fire is certainly one name I shall be keeping an eye out for in the future....
