paulepicbigWhen an Über head honcho passed this to me and I saw the cover I must admit that a little wee did come out as I was laughing so much - I couldn't help it. With a cover like this, who needs enemies...

Coming across like a beefed-up Myke Gray comes Paul Epic from Canada, who is a world champion at powerlifting and a competitor in the World's Strongest Man competition. He is also a gold medal skydiver (how the hell can you have a medal system for skydiving... what, you jump out of the plane and the first one to the ground gets gold?!) and kickboxer fanatic.

Looking at the promo pictures, Paul actually looks like Vin Diesel crossed with Hercules. Anyway, back to the music in hand... while he states his influences as Nickelback, Pantera, Van Halen, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society, the nearest he sounds to these are Nickelback and the groove of Pantera. My beef with Paul is that he needs someone to arrange his songs better as they are good but could be so much better. Another thing being Paul's vocals; he has only one setting and that's RAWK, if he had someone who could twist their vocal stylings around a melody that would bring out other hooks and touches to really take these good songs and make them great.

Having said this I will be keeping an eye out for Paul Epic and look forward to hearing more in the future.
