1253346853_hell_city_glamoursWow, an Australian band who don't sound like AC/DC! Not that that's a bad thing, but how refreshing.

Not a brand new release but one that came out in Australia a while ago and was picked up and re-released in Europe by Powerage towards the tail end of 2009. Remember the name, Hell City Glamours - these bad boys have the suss and tunes to cross continents with a sound as big as Rod Stewart looked on the 'Atlantic Crossing' album cover. It's big, it's brassy, it's bold and it fuckin' rocks!

'One Night Only' comes rollocking in on a cracking hook and melody and just about sets out the Hell City Glamours' stall. What you get for your money is thirteen tracks from this Sydney foursome that just about sum up the mantle of 'All Killer And No Filler' typified by the uber catchy 'Back To You' as it thunders through the speakers with a toe-tap-tastic bass line that leads you to the chorus that's one of those that takes up residency in your head and stays for days.

Having known nothing about this band prior to putting the disc in the player, imagine how pleased I was to hear how damn good they were. Sure they have riffs a plenty, the recording is punchy and tight but the songs are full to the brim of catchy choruses and bigger hooks than Brody, Quint and Hooper had when they went after Jaws. If you have any vouchers left after crimbo and you're looking to buy that one album that will start you off for 2010 then look no further, I've found it for you.

If you don't fall for songs like 'Flying Away', 'Ready To Fall' and 'The Money' then fuck me you must be dead! This is slick and Hell City Glamours have the chops to back up the hype. There is variety in this disc as well with songs like 'Worst Kinda Guy' being laid back and infectious while 'High Brow' rocks like Guns N' Roses used to. I'm hearing bits of 80's rock with a little Thin Lizzy even, as well as pinches here and there of some Hanoi Rocks, even a little Aerosmith - when they used to be vital, that is - but it still manages to sound current and fresh. Now what are you waiting for? Get out there and get a little Hell City Glamour in your life - you won't regret it!
