jeffbeck176Multi-award winning rock veteran Jeff Beck has had his fingers in so many pies that you could probably even taste him in a Melton Mowbray. Drawing on his musical connections, Beck sees in 2011 with the release of 'Rock 'n' Roll Party : Honouring Les Paul'. The collection is a product of the summer of 2010, which saw him take to the stage with a myriad of stars from the rock 'n' roll and blues scene in order to honour the source of his inspiration and arguably the most famous pioneer of the solid-body guitar, Les Paul.

Les Paul is inextricably bound up with the sound of rock as we know it. From Slash to Jimmy Page, Ace Frehley to The Edge, the famous Les Paul tone can be heard all over your music collection. With this gathering of songs Beck heads back to the classic sounds and Paul songs of the 50s and 60s, lighting up the stage of the Iridium Jazz Club for what would have been Paul's, who passed away in 2009, 95th birthday.

There is no messing about with this offering. This is a straight up rock 'n' roll celebration, with no frills. That is of course, if you don't consider the guests as extra frills! The whole show is backed up by the Imelda May Band, which also features her guitar-playing husband Darrel Higham who is on hand to share vocals for a large part of the set. Brass-master Trombone Shorty makes an appearance while the legendry rhythm and blues singer Gary U.S. Bonds joins them for a scorching rendition of 'New Orleans', with the 71 year old giving a lesson in energising rock 'n' roll. Brian Setzer, perhaps better known for wielding a selection of Gretschs is also on hand to finish the set with a thunderous 'Twenty Flight Rock'.

Les Paul's name has perhaps become bigger than the man himself, rightly earning him legendary status, but it is to be remembered that he played at the Iridium every week for 14 years until his death. With this blistering set of songs Beck reminds us that Paul was a born performer and superb songwriter. Rather than a tired collection of classic covers, 'Rock 'n' Roll Party' is a fresh and enjoyable salute to the creator of the rock sound that we all know and love.

'Rock 'n' Roll Party : Honouring Les Paul' is to be released on Blu-Ray, DVD, and CD from Eagle Rock Entertainment and ATCO on 21 February, followed by a short tour of the U.S. in 2011.
