1ayou-me-at-six-hold-me-downWhat an opening call to arms 'The Consquence' is... I had always written off You Me At Six as Lostprophets/Fall Out Boy wannabes, but boy I wasn't expecting this...

Having witnessed this band live recently I was shocked to realise that I knew quite a few songs (they must have crept into my subconscious via Kerrang TV) - Case in point first single 'Underdog' which is currently in heavy rotation on Radio 1.

I am pleased to say that this being my first time to actually listen to the Surry band's recorded output, I really like what I hear. 'Playing The Blame Game' tackles the usual lyrical theme of a relationship breakup, which appears to be the theme throughout the whole album.

The production is very clear and crisp courtesy of John Mitchell and Matt O'Grady (who between them have produced the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Enter Shikari, Architects and  The Blackout) so you kind of know how they are going to sound. The clarity and scope of the sound is immense as the soaring hooks and irresistible melodies flow over you and into your head, meaning you will probably end up singing them for days.

Admittedly, there are one or two songs where I think "this sounds like..." or "am I listening to..." which, bearing in mind the type of music this is, is no real surprise. Josh Franceschi's vocals are very typical for the genre, although more often than not he does pull an outstanding vocal from out of nowhere.

Highlights for me are 'Liquid Confidence', 'Safer To Hate Her' and 'There's No Such Thing As Accidental Infidelity'.

This is not the type of band that a lot of people who visit Über Röck will like, however if they give You Me At Six, and especially this album, a chance they will be rewarded with a collection of muscial expertise that belies the band's young years and will walk away knowing the rock world is evolving and in safe hands...
