Juichead'How To Sail A Sinking Ship' is the second full length offering from Chicago's Juicehead, and of course with it being released on Misfits Records, I like many others immediately assumed that the band would either be a Misfits clone (Balzac) or a least be heavily influenced by the band (Osaka Popstar), but I was sooooo wrong. JuiceheaD are most definitely not a horror-punk band, in fact they're not even that punky. The band has more of a straight-ahead indie guitar pop sound that is definitely more Busted than Rancid. Yeah okay, there is a bit of punk lurking in there somewhere and it's pretty good when it does surface but they're hardly 'reminiscent of forefathers like The Clash' or 'the next Green Day, Rancid or Social Distortion for a new generation' as the press blurb proudly proclaims.

That said, 'How To Sail A Sinking Ship' still features some pretty cool tunes but there are simply too many of the little buggers on here for anything to immediately standout. Weighing in at around 60 minutes long you can't help feeling that decent songs like 'Rotting From The Inside,' 'Lorraine,' 'Death To Democracy' and 'How To Sail A Sinking Ship' really run the risk of getting lost in the shuffle with their 16 three minute musical companions.

I've read some great reviews of the band's live shows prior to sitting down to review 'How To Sail A Sinking Ship', but here Osaka Popstar mainman John Cafiero's production comes over pretty lightweight and adds very little edge to the proceedings. More guitars and more vocal harmonies would have lifted this bad boy up to a level making the whole thing more worthy of both the great song writing that is criminally hidden away here and the universal love that could have been showered upon this release!

JuiceheaD are going out on tour supporting the Misfits soon and will be hitting the UK in early February, I for one will certainly be checking them out as those glowing live reviews can't all be wrong can they?
