Swirling organs and a dirty riff is what ya get on your introduction to The Vibes. 'Scumbags And Presidents' is a pretty decent opener as it motors along with that pleasure beach swirl giving it an edge, definitely a "kiss-me-quick" introduction. 'Rapunzel' is up next with yet more dirty riffs and this bastard of a tune thunders along like short lived supergroup Motordamned, capturing a sound, which is always welcome on my stereo. Two tracks in and '45 Minutes To Go' is shaping up to be a pretty decent album and the dirty white boy distorted blues harp honking in the background is very pleasing on the ear.
'Tesla' again shows off some very decent harmonica honking over the top of a mid paced ditty. If you like a little 'DC mixed with some 60's organ and a fair scoop of garage rock then you could do a lot worse than check these boys out.
If you happened to stumble upon a band like this in a club late at night you'd be delighted with your find especially if they happened to be beating out 'Black Dogs' upon your entry. 'Hellride' is 'DC again, this time rockin up a Motorhead tune and bloody good it is too. Possibly one of my favourite song titles so far this year is 'Thank You For Killing My Woman', which is also a good song and not just a good title, but obviously I don't advocate killing anyone's woman. Well, not publicly anyway.
With thirteen songs shoehorned onto this here disc I was very pleased I took the time to delve in and submerge myself in the bass grunt on 'Burning Man', which is worth investigating even if it is the penultimate track. 'Matlock Hates You' closes the album and what a cool workout it is too. I for one certainly hope Matlock doesn't hate The Vibes though, because if he does then he's a tool!
I don't hate The Vibes and neither will any of you guys, because they fucking rock!
