Liv KristineLiv Kristine's fifth solo album ‘Vervain’ is being billed as a dark rock masterpiece in some quarters, and to be fair that isn't far from the truth - it is a masterpiece. That’s because you just know that with Liv's vocals you are going to get a fantastic aural pleasure plus with additional contributions from Michelle Darkness and Doro Pesch, you know exactly that she is not messing around. The rock here is of the utmost importance.

‘Love Decay’ is the song that features End of Green’s Michelle Darkness, and he's always reminded me of much missed Peter Steele of Type O Negative fame, so the mashing of Liv with Michelle is a genius move. There's almost a heaven and hell thing going on. Bravo!

The title track is another slice of that dark goth rock that Liv does so well – and this has me throwing shapes about the room like nobody's business. Following this is the appearance of metal queen Doro Pesch on 'Stronghold Of Angels' where Doro and Liv trade lines with ease and they both complement each other perfectly.

Perhaps the best thing about ‘Vervain’ was the resulting tour which saw the gothic metal legends Liv Kristine, Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering) and Kari Rueslåtten (ex-The 3rd And The Mortal) joing forces late in 2014 and touring as ‘The Sirens’. Nothing screams to me more than that, and I demand they bring this show to the UK in 2015.

‘Vervain’ then delivers everything that is expected of it and so much more.
